Aug 6, 2010

Everyone of the kids came to welcome John home from his mission. He was suppose to fly into Phoenix on Saturday the 7th of Aug. 2010. At 8:00pm on the 6th I received a call from John caying that the Mexican government wouldn't allow the missionaries to leave Mexico because their Visas were expired. He said that they didn't know when they would be allowed to leave. That was a big let down for all of us as Nich had even flown in from Texas and eveyone needed to get back to work on Monday. Pres Solomon called John's mission President who use to be our old stake president, Robert Hicken, who said that the church had sent the money in for the visa back in April and the government just wanted more money. He said that he was hoping to get the missionaries gone in 4 days. All the kids stayed for Sunday as the grandkids sang in church and Brian and I had to talk on what we were learning from this experience. Then Sunday night James and Bridget had to return home. Monday, Brooke and Nich decided that they we need to head back to Texas so we had dinner and as Brooke and Nich were driving out of the driveway I received a phone call from Pres. Hicken saying that John would be returning home the next day. The timing was perfect as Brooke and Nich decided to wait a day to leave so they could see John.
Tuesday the 10th Brian watched the planes path all the way from Mexico and was nervous the whole day.

John's return home

We are happy to finally announce that John will be returning home this Saturday Aug 7. He will be speaking in our ward this Sunday the 8th at the Chandler Heights and Ellsworth Building at 11:00 am. We will also have an open house that evening starting at 6:00 at our house. Come by and say hi to John. We are anxious to have him home again and grateful for the past two years and the blessings that John's mission has brought to our family.

hey momma

Well now its time! I really can't believe how fast the time has gone by. I can still rememeber the first day that I went into the MTC like yesterday. Man I am really gonna miss being a missionary, but I guess this mission is done and the Lord wants me to get on to my other mission.
There are soo many things that I have learned out here these last 2 years but I think the most important thing that I have learned are about the saving principles of the gospel, and of coarse the atonement of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am soo very thankful for my elder brother who suffered and gave his life so that each one of us can have the opportunity to return to the presence of our loving Heavenly Father. I know that I am nothing but an inutil(useless) servant but I also know that as we give everything the our Father in Heaven and try with all our hearts to keep his commandments we can feel of his love and joy. He wants us to be happy, he wants us to receive blessings, he wants us to be with him forever. Now the only way that we can try to pay him back and show him our love is by first, keep his commandments and second, share this marvelous news to everyone we love and know. That is why missionary work is a marvelous work and wonder. I know this church is true. I know God lives as well as his son and my savior Jesus Chirst. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and from his time we have always had a prophet of God who has lead this Church through Revelation! I love this work and I love my God. Thank you so much family for your support, love and example which you have given me. You will never know how much it means to me!!

Hey momma

Well it sounds like your days have been pretty busy huh! I bet you guys just had a blast these last couple days in Texas and then at the family reunion. I wish I could of been there. How was it anyway? What did you guys do? Well here in Mexico everything is pretty nice. Me and my comp are just trying to finish out strong. It is way crazy to me to think that I only have 2 more Sundays to baptize! Man that kinda scares me. But all in all everything is going good. 2 of my converts here in my ward just received the Melchizedek Priesthood and I am really excited. Both of them have given blessings to there families and are really going strong in the church. I really love missionary work!!
Well how are things looking in the ward. What is the church attendence every week? Have there been alot of baptisms lately? What are the missionaries names that are there right now? Man I really hope all is well over there in the house. I can't wait to here and see all of you. Well I really can't think of anything else to tell ya except I love ya and keep giving references to the missionaries ok :)

hey momma
Well I guess you are in Texas right now and I bet it is just beautiful with monsoon season coming in. I also bet it is great seeing Brooke again. I hope all is well and that her baby is doing ok. Over here things are going good. Me and my companion just like I always say are doing good, working hard and trying to find the chosen people to baptize. I am hoping to finish off the mission these next 3 weeks with 3 baptisms. I will be good after that. It is soo crazy how fast the time passes huh?!
Well as for my ankle, all in all everything is ok. I am walking good now and it feels alot stronger. Every once in awhile it starts to bother me but its all good.
Oh my goodness I wish that you all could be here in Pachuca. It has been soo beautiful lately! It has been raining quite a bit and these last couple days. I have had to use a sweater because it has been pretty cold. A lot different than AZ hahaha. I really love it here and it will be hard to leave. Actually I heard from some members that it is suppose to rain for the next 3 months. How crazy is that? I am ok with it though.
Well this past week we had our Zone counsel with Pres Hickens. It was a really great experience. He is such a great man and is going to do great things over here in Mexico. I was also talking to Sister Hickens for awhile and she says hi. She is such a sweet lady and is really trying hard to learn Spanish.
Well I really can't think of anything else to say except that I love you all and please let me know if you need anything.

hey momma

Well I guess I can give you the news of the week. The conference that we had with President Bulloch was great. He is such a spiritual man that has done alot of great things here in Mexico! He will be missed by soo many missionaries and people here in Mexico, but we are all excited for Presidente Hickens to get here! What I know is that the 1st of July is when Pres Bulloch will give his phone to Pres Hickens and in that moment he will become our new President. How crazy is that?! I really am excited though.
Well as for the changes. I didn't get them so it looks like I will be dying here in Pachuca. I am ok with that though. I really feels like it is my home. I have passed more than almost 3/4 of my mission here so I know almost all the bishops and have worked in 9 of the 14 wards that are here. So I also know quite a few members ;) I am pretty excited to finish the mission here in Good ole Pachuca!
Well my ankle is doing alot better. I went and saw the doctor right after our zone conference because the Hna Bulloch saw my ankle and told me that I had to go see him. Well we took off and the doctor gave me a big medical boot to wear. I told him honestly that I wasn't going to wear it, but he gave me it anyway. My ankle really is doing alot better though. I can walk pretty good now and it doesn't hurt me like it was.
The work here in Pachuca is going good. Me and my comp are looking to baptize 2 people this upcoming week. I just wanna keep working hard and endure to the end. I am hoping to end this cycle off with 6 bapisms. Just need to find 4 more chosen people. All in all everything is going great. Well I really can't think of anything else to say except to tell James and Larry congrads for the baby Jayla. I am soo happy for them and can't wait to hold Jayla in a couple of weeks. I love you all so much!!!

Mexico and the world cup. Man there are a couple things that you dont mess with the mexican over here 1. there tacos 2. beans 3. there soccer
VIVA MEXICO!!!

Well family here I am again. Another week has passed by and boy howdy the time is just going quick. Over here in Mexico alot of things are going on. Here in the mission we are going to go through alot of changes in these next couple days. Wednesday we have a huge multi-zone conference, the last one with President Bulloch, that is really wierd for me to say! After that, next week, we have changes. We are going to be losing 24 missionaries and going to recieve 17. I had a feeling that I was going to be training this next cycle but President talk to me about a week ago and told me something leading me to think that I am going to die as a Zone Leader, which is ok with me.
All in all things are going pretty good over here in Pachuca. Our zone did pretty good this last week and ended off with 14 baptisms. It was really awesome. We just got to make sure that we stay consistent. Me and Elder Rodriguez had the opportunity to baptize a kid called Aldair. I think I told you about him last week. Well we had his service this past Sunday and boy was it crazy. hahah What happened is that I started filling up the font at like 11 o clock so that is would be filled at 3 for his baptism. Well at like 2:30 I went to go check the font and you guessed it. It only had about 2 inches of water in it, we didnt have any water in the church. Well we made a call to one of our DL and had him start filling his font. Our services ended and then we took off to the other church. When we arrived the font was filled but with ice cold freezing water. haha (luckily my companion was going to baptize :) well they both got changed into their white clothes and entered into the water. Poor Aldair, he was shaking from head to toe. Well they hurried and did the baptism and everything turned out great. It really was a good service!
Oh I forgot to tell you that I hurt my ankle last week. I went to the doctor and took some X-rays. I think everything is going to be ok. Well I kinda ran out of things to says. Im sorry I don't write as good as Elder Ashcroft. Man he really does have a gift for writing and quite alot more patience with the keyboard than I do. Well I love you all sooo much and let me know if you need anything

Hey family

How is everything going for yall over there in AZ? Over here in Pachuca things are pretty crazy. Actually the climate is really nice! It has been really rainy and getting pretty cold at night. I love it though. As for missionary work, me and my companion are working hard and are hoping to baptize and kid named Aldair this Sunday. He is really cool and has changed so much since our first appointment. We are hoping that in 2 years he will leave on a mission. How cool would that be? All in all things are going good over here in Pachuca. Just trying to finish off strong. well I better get going but hope to hear from you guys next week. Let me know if you need anything.

June 7, 2010

hey everyone

Well looks like it is getting pretty darn hot over there in good ole AZ. Over here isnt that hot but the sun sure does burn ya. I sure do enjoy the weather over here though. I can't wait to go swimmin again it will be so awesome.
Well all in all me and my companion are doing pretty good. We have been seeing so many miracles and blessings over here in our area. We had the opportunity to baptize a girl called fanny this past Sunday. haha We kinda had a problem though, we started filling up the baptizimal font like 2 hours before the service. Well we took off to go get the family and the clothes for the baptism but when we got back to church we had a problem. I went to go check the font and I found that it only had 2 inches of water in it. I didn't know what happened. So we started investigating and we found out that the water tank up on the church didn't have any water in it. We didn't know what to do. Finally we decided that we would start filling up the font with buckets hahah. It was soo funny seeing missionaries trucking in buckets of water to fill up a baptizimal font. Finally we got enough water in the font so that I could immerse the girl in the water. It really was a special baptism hahaha.
Well how is everything going over there. I sure hope good. Thank you soo much for all of your support and love that you give to me. I don't know how it repay all of you. Please let me know if there is anything that I can help you with.

Hey momma

Well sounds like this last week was pretty hectic. I am soo proud of Jared, that is awesome that he is all graduated. So what is he planning to do now? Is he still wanting to go down to EA. Well all in all this week was pretty good for me and my companion. We had the opportunty to baptize a family of 4 that we have been working with for quite some time. It was a really really great service and alot of members were there to give their support. We are working hard and just trying to find the chosen people that are waiting to hear the truth.
Man I really can't believe how fast the time is flying by. I can't believe that Jared is done with high school. I feel like I just barely graduated haha.
So Elder Lucas called you. That is funny, last Thursday he called he and said. Elder Reed does your mom and dad have a cell number because I tried calling your home phone and this old lady picked up and started yelling at me saying that she gets about 5 phone calls a day asking for the Reed Family. hahah I just started laughing. Well I gave him your number and told him some things that I needed. Man I can't even tell you all how many missionaries want a horseshoe key ring. Actually I think the whole mission wants one hahaha. They all know that I am getting ready to finish the mission so they want to get one before I go home.
Well I want you all to know that I love you soo much and are always in my prayers. Tell Jared felicidades and that I love him.

Hey momma,

Well how has everything been going for ya? Sounds like you guys had a busy weekend with the temple dedication, Calvins B Day, and then Daytons B Day. Man I beat you are just happy it is all over huh. Well me and my companion also had a pretty busy week. Oh by the way I received a new companion. His name is Elder Rodriguez and he comes from Gudalajara just like my last companion. He has about 18 months in the mission and is a really hard worker. I know that we are going to see alot of miracles in these next couple of weeks. Well we worked pretty hard and had the opportunity to baptize a girl called Otilia. She is 14 and has a really hard life. Her mom abandoned her about 4 years ago and ever since then her dad has been a drunk. He doesn't work and when he leaves the house it is to go buy more alcohol to drink. She has 1 older brother that is 17 who is a drugatic and another sister that is 16 who also does drugs. Otilia went to church for the first time 2 weeks ago and loved it. She told me she really feels love there and that someone actually wants her and cares for her. The church really is an amazing thing isn't it.
Well for this next Sunday me and my companion are hoping to baptize a family of 4. We have been working for quite some time with them but I really feel like this is their week so if you could keep them is your prayers I would greatly appreciate it!
Oh I heard that the Suns are doing pretty good huh. I really hope they beat the Lakers this year. That would be way cool. Well I better get going. I feel bad because I forgot my camera in the house hopefully next week I will be able to send you some more pitures.

love ya a ton

Elder Reed

May 17, 2010

hey momma

Oh my goodness today has been probably one of the best days of my life!!!! It was such a great blessing to have the opportunity to listen to Elder David A Bednar, and boy did I learn alot!! I would just like to share a couple things that I learned from him.
As Elder Bednar started talking there was a power which I have felt unlike any other! He asked all of us to not take notes on what he was going to say, only to take notes on what the spirit told us. He started in with the principle of Faith. As most members of the church I think that we think we know what faith is but we can always always learn more! He told us that we all have the responsibilty to learn by faith. As we learn by faith the Holy Ghost can carry the message we need to hear to our hearts but that is as far as it can go. It depends on each one of us to open our hearts and accept the message which is being presented. This is the only way that we can learn by faith with a open heart and a willing mind.
He also taught us to receive an answer from God we need to do 2 things. 1. We must first be willing to ask the Lords will before receive an answer. 2. Open our hearts, study and ask with real intention. We must take Jose(I guess that is Joseph in Spanish) Smith as an example. When he went to the grove of trees to pray to God. He just didn't ask which church was true. He said he wanted to ask God which Church was true so that he could join it. Jose Smith went to the grove of trees ready to act upon the answer he was going to receive. " that is way cool huh :)" So each one of us must be willing to act before we ask.
Elder Bednar also taught a millon other things but I will just have to share them with you a little later. As for the changes, I didn't have changes this time but my companion did. So tomorrow I will be getting a new comp. Next week I will let you know who it is. All in all everything is going good. Well I better get going but tell Heidi that I wish her good luck and to "SALTE EL BARCO" I will tell you what it means and the story behind it a little later.

Hey momma

Well I am really glad that the stake conference went good. It is so wierd I know that the church is the same all over the world but stake conferences are really different over here in mexico. I love the church over here though!
Well how bout Preston Solomon is going home is 2 weeks, how crazy is that. I know he is pretty excited to see his family. He is a really good missionary and an example for many people. Well all in all everything is going good, me and my companion are trying to keep on finding new people to teach and keep the other investigators progressing. It can get kinda challenging sometimes. I really have seen soo many blessing and miracles this cycle though!
Oh momma my english is getting soo soo bad. I feel like I really can't speak it anymore! I really hope you can understand me this next sunday. Make sure Ben and Wes are there so that they can translate for me :) I am excited to hear everyones voices and see how yall are doing. Isn't it crazy how fast time is just passing by. I feel like I just barely talked to you all and now 5 months have passed by. wow thats crazy!
Well how is the family doing? Is Larissa getting ready to pop? I bet brooke sure is. Make sure you send me pictures of all of the new nephews and nieces that I don't know. Well I can't really think of anything else to say just want you all to know that I love ya and are always is my prayers.!!!

April 26, 2010

hey momma

How has everything been going for ya over there in the good ole AZ? I hope good. Is it still cold over there or is it starting to warm up? Over here is kinda crazy. I think that we can hit all for climates in one day. In the mornings it will start off pretty hot then in the afternoon is gets cloudy and then starts to rain and hail. In the nights it then gets really really cold. I really do love Pachuca though!!!
Well this past Sunday we had the opportunity to baptize 2 people. It was really awesome! We didn't bring as many people to church as we did last week but it was still a good week! We are hopefully going to be baptizing 3 families here in the next couple weeks. We are really trying to focus on being consistent here in the mission. The Lord really is preparing the Mexican people right now. I was just reading a prophesy about the last days that says the the Lamanities in the Last days will listen to the true gospel and then BLOSOM LIKE A ROSE. How cool is that, and I really know that is what is happening right now! There are sooo many people here waiting to hear the true gospel of Jesus Christ, we just always need to be preparaed to bear our testimonies and help them find the light
Oh man I can't believe that some one would wanna steal my sandrail jajajaja I wouldnt even try to steal that piece of junk but oh well, I guess there was a reason why that happened. I guess it is better that way so when I get home I dont spend my time and money on trying to fix it up.
I am soo happy that the missionaries in your ward had a baptism this past Sunday. There in nothing better than baptizing to get a missionary pumped up and go give everything to Lord. Make sure that you all help them out with whatever they need and always give them references. I know that they will really appreciate it!
Oh Momma I almost forgot the most important thing that I was gonna tell you FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS or happy birthday. I hope you have one of the most happiest BDay ever. I LOVE YOU SOO MUCH MOMMA and please never forgot that you are my hero! te quiero mucho!!
Well I better get going but please let me know if you need anything. Cant wait to talk to you on mothers day

Hey momma

How is everything going for ya. Sounds like you guys had a busy weekend. So Briley got baptized how awesome is that! I wish I could have been there. I can't believe that Briley is 8 years old now. Isn't it amazing how fast the time just flies by. A couple days ago I was sitting and reflecting over these last 20 months of my life as a missionary and I really can't believe how fast it has gone by and how much I have changed. I really can't even remember my life not being a missionary. This will be my last General conference here in Mexcio and I only have 18 more Sunday as a missionary. Man that is really crazy for me to say. I really love being a missionary and preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ to the people here in Mexico. I can't even imagine the day when President Solomon will take my name tag and call me Brother Reed and not Elder. oh man!
For that I know that I need to give everything that I have in these last 4 months. I really know that as I do it the Lord will bless each one of you back there. Always remember that as we keep the commandment we are qualifing to receive blessing from God. I love D&C 82:10 that say that the lord is obligated to bless us when we do his will.
All in all everything is going good here in Mexico. Me and my companion are going to work hard to try to baptize 7 people this week so keep us in your prayers in this week. I love you all so much and always remember that I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SOOO MUCH. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT I AM HERE FOR ANYTHING THAT YOU NEED.

Howdy

Hey momma how is everything going for ya? I can imagine that you are pretty busy.So how is work going? Well all in all everything is going good over here. I am staying really busy and to tell you the truth I feel like I have never worked so hard in my life. This week has been a really special week for me. We had the opportunity to baptize a lady named Rosalva. She has been listening to the misionaries for over 25 years and this last Saturday we had the privledge to see her make the covenant of baptism. I love so much how this gospel changes the lives of those who are willing to find out for themselves that it is true. I think the hardest part of the gospel is keepin the commandments every single day. Satan is trying so hard to get us to fall and he won't take a day off. I am so privledged to be a missionary of Jesus Christ and I know that I need to contiune stong until the end!!
Well now changing the subject. How is James doing? Is his back feeling better? Is he able to shoe horses? I have been pretty worried for him. And you momma, how are you feeling? Do you feel like you have recovered your strength? if not make sure to keep is easy so that you can heal all the way. Well I talk to Elder Solomon last week and he told me that he only has 9 more weeks left. How crazy is that. Time is flying by so fast. Well I can't really think of anything else to say, I want you all to know that I love you so much and that I am giving my all still. I LOVE YOU

March 15, 2010

Hey momma how is everything going for ya? Well over here in Mexico everything is going great. Me and my companion are just trying to keep busy trying to spread the gospel. We have been finding a lot of families but they just don’t seem to want to progress. Sometimes it is really hard to find a great family and have them accept everything in the first lesson, to then have them fall and not want anything to do with the church. I know that Satan is trying so hard to destroy this marvelous work that means that we just need to work harder. We need to give everything to the Lord. I know sometimes it is hard to do, but when we do it he is willing to give us soooo many blessing! I really have seen so many miracles these last couple of weeks here in the mission!
So James threw out his back this last week. Man I bet that has got to hurt. I wish i was there to help him shoe all of his horses. What is he going to do? Just make sure that he gets a blessing and everything will turn out good. Man I was thinking today and when I get home I will not know 5 of my nephews and nieces. How crazy is that? It is going to be so awesome to get to know them. Well all in all everything is going good for me right now. Just trying to hit me goals running! Well I better get going for now but i love you all so much!! Let me know if I can do anything for ya

Hey Momma,

Man you had me really scared about what was happenin with you and the hospital. Are you feeling better? Man you better take care of yourself momma! Well I guess I can get to the news. I am finally going to have changes this Tuesday. I am pretty excited for this change, I think it will help me get a boost. 7 months is a long time in an area! haha but to tell you the truth I am gonna miss this area. I have quite a few converts and alot of friends over here. I guess that changes are good though. It is kinda wierd thinkin that my next area should be my last one. Man that is really crazy.
Well this last week me and Elder Hilario had the opportunity to baptize a man called Fidel. He is way awesome. Me and my comp gave him a Book of Mormon about 2 months ago and he just finished readin it about 1 week ago and guess what he did when he finished it? He started readin it again. I have never known of one of my investigators to finish the BofM so fast and then after finishin it to start over. He will one day be a great leader in the church. Well, I really don't have much more to say. I love you all so much and please let me know if you need anything.

Hey Momma,

How has everything been going? Right now me and my companion have been havin some problems in our zone. It makes me really sad to see missionaries that aren't really here to serve the Lord. Believe it or not some missionaries just come out to make their mom and dad or maybe a girlfriend happy. You can really tell the difference between the missionaries that wanna work and the ones who are just waitin for there 2 years to be up. Oh well, I guess the only thing that I can do is give everything to the Lord!!! So how has everyone been doing over there in AZ. Is work keepin yall busy. Man, over here there sure is alot of work. The weather has been pretty crazy these last couple days though. Right now it is rainin pretty hard. I love it though. Well, right now me and my companion are teaching a family of 5 and they should be getting baptized next week. I am soo happy for them. This gospel truly is amazing how it can completely change the lives of the ones who want it. Well, I guess I have rambled on long enough. I would like to know how everything is going over there. I LOVE YOU ALL SOOOO MUCH!

Man I cannot believe that Aaron Dees is getting married the 14th of May. That is sooo crazy. He is gonna miss Preston by three days. He comes home the 17th of May hahah that kinda stinks. But I am really happy for him. So who is he going to marry? I bet she is a really nice girl. He will be a good dad.
Well this week has been a pretty crazy. We baptized a kid called Beto this past Sunday. He is 11 years old and was really excited to be able to get baptized. Other than that we are teaching another family that are cristians. It always seems like the cristians take a longer time to accept our message but when they accept it they are really faithful in the gospel!! We are gonna try to baptize a girl named Dafne this week. She is really great but in the last church she was in someone hurt her really bad so she is kinda scared to be a member of the church cause she doesnt want the same thing to happen.
Well how has everything been going over there in AZ? Is it gettin cold? Man it sure is getting cold over here. Every morning I don't want to get out of bed because it is soo cold. haha but it is all good. Well I hope all is well over there. Please know that each one of you are in my prayers and thoughts.
